MEMORIALS & PROJECTS

We are dedicated to the completion of our memorial projects to honor our veterans who served our country.

Lake County World Wars I & II Veterans and Holocaust Memorial

In 2003, the City of Crown Point donated a five-acre parcel to the Friends of the Veterans Memorial Parkway (FVMP) for the creation of a memorial to those from Lake County who served and died in World Wars I & II. Records report up to 1,200 soldiers perished from the county in these two wars, and this site sets out to honor their sacrifices. In addition, the site will also pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust, where approximately 11 million innocent civilians were murdered by the Nazi regime, including six million Jews. In 2022, city officials pledged to the FVMP property at Sauerman Woods Park across the street to create the memorial. This will now include a large pond plus adjacent wood. The site will be accessed from US 231 via a new roundabout. Please click the button below to learn more about this transformational project.

The site will be located in Hebron on a 1.7-acre donated parcel along the Veterans Memorial Trail.
